Our latest color additions, Sand and Terracotta, invite you to create moments of calmness and connect with your natural creativity. Just like Tamara Pesic, the designer and ceramist behind the local, ceramic-based project, a pinch of salt.
We got a glimpse into how Tamara creates time to connect with her inner creativity and community when we shot our collection at her studio.
A calm morning
"I try to keep certain rituals for myself. When I wake up around 6 I first drink a glass of water and then I grind the beans for my first coffee that I always drink in my bed (I do this since I was a student). I love these familiar sounds and smells."
An act of grounding
"I read a few pages or just take a moment longer for myself until I feel ready to start my day and get ready to bike to the studio."
Take a step back
Sometimes it helps to just take a step away from work, whether it's just for a walk in the forest, a market stroll or a new place. Let that soak in for a bit and return with a fresh mind."
Connect with Community
"Once or twice a week I try to take time to go to the farmers market in Offenbach, a place I really love (...) Community is essential for me, it's the foundation and backbone that I associate with genuine care, mutual support, sharing experiences and knowledge. But also a place that gives stability and meaning, where I can be vulnerable and fully true to myself and feel supported in my growth. It is also what enabled me to start my business in the middle of the pandemic. Community really is everything."
We loved seeing Tamara in action, interacting with the vendors at the market. Even as an observer, you could feel the genuine care and friendship that has been honed between them over the years.

You may wonder why we are opening our first flagship store in the middle of the pandemic. The truth is, we want to be connected. Notabag was born in Frankfurt, and it has traveled the world for almost 10 years. Over the years, Notabag's journey was supported and accompanied by friends, family & fans.
Our flagship store is providing us with a great opportunity to finally receive face-to-face feedback from our customers and thus stay in touch with the Frankfurt community.
We hammered, painted, and the renovation dust quickly settled. The invitations were sent, and preparations were made carefully. Finally, on the 20th of November, we opened the first Notabag flagship store in Frankfurt.
While blowing up the balloons for the opening party in the morning, we reflected on all the energy, thoughts, and effort we put into the store:
It all started with an empty store location, not too far from our office – it was on the street where we daily get our favorite coffee. We teamed up with the talented Frankfurt-based interior and furniture design company Eberhardt Objects. The dynamic between us was spot-on from the get-go. Steffen Eberhardt immediately understood what we were looking for and created a beautiful store concept that matches the Notabag DNA.
One hour before the store opening as our friends from Quarantini Gin started to heat up the Glüh Gin & children’s punch for the guests, the music stopped, the Wi-Fi and the store lights went off and the Glüh Gin stayed cold. We had a power outage. But luckily, our neighbor & store designer Eberhardt Objects did the last-minute save. Heavily loaded with extension cables, he saved our store opening event. So as our friends, family, and partners arrived in the afternoon, we sipped delicious drinks and enjoyed the opening of the first Notabag flagship store.
Our store is in a lively shopping street in Frankfurt City, the Oeder Weg. In between concept stores, coffee shops, designers, hairdressers, and restaurants, Notabag is adding colorful patterns to the street.
Viewed from distance in the dark, our store is calling you to come inside, giving you cozy vibes. Its warm colors shine through the big windows, illuminating the surrounding. As you step inside, you will be guided by our minimalistic design, inviting you to dive into the world of Notabags colors and patterns. In the heart of our store, there is the is our big counter, offering enough space to discover different products and to experience the material of Notabags.
So come say hi, here are our opening hours:
Monday – Friday: 12pm – 6pm
Saturday: 11am – 5pm
Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

]]>Plastic pollution is nothing new anymore. With estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic entering the ocean every year, by the time of 2050, it is projected that there will be less fish than plastic swimming in our marine environment.
By design, Notabag embodies durability and quality form the very first moment. Our combination of a bag and a backpack offers a reusable alternative to single use plastic bag. Besides, we are making a positive impact with our membership of the 1% for the Planet movement. This global movement is a collaboration of organizations who commit to donate one percent of the annual sales to environmental non-profits. These supported non-profits work on pressing issues including climate, food, land, pollution, water and wildlife.
But we wanted to go further and beyond and close the resource cycle of a Notabag. Thus, we are excited to share that our new Notabag Recycled Collection is the answer to an ongoing and worldwide plastic pollution while saving valuable resources.
Notabag Recycled is a smart combination of a bag and backpack made of recycled plastic bottles. Each bag is giving 12 bottles a second life, providing a new choice for a mindful and eco-conscious lifestyle.
The Journey of each recycled bag starts with the collection of plastic bottles by local council or private companies. Machines then remove anything that has be wrongly recycled. This is a vital procedure, since materials that are any different to plastic bottles reduce the quality of the material.
In a next step, the bottles are shredded into small PET flakes passing through a liquid solution to remove any labels or glue. Then, the dried PET flakes pass through a machine that heats and stretches the PET flakes into a fiber. Bundled together, these small fibers complete to a yarn used for the Notabag production. Our fabric producers will then create the final product giving back a second life to the collected plastic bottles.
The 100% Recycled PET Polyester is water-resistant and machine washable. The long-lasting material carries all your favorite snacks or library books. Notabag Recycled Collection is available in four colors bringing nature to your urban life.
Along our path to a sustainable company, we always valued transparent communication about our production practices. When we started looking into potential partners, Sam suggested collaborating with a small family-run factory in Guangdong province, China.
Since 2016 we have maintained a close relationship. As we grew, the family-run factory opened second one to accommodate our increasing orders.

Notabag was born in a Frankfurt apartment in 2012.

Over the years, we’ve worked on a few key topics.
By choosing sustainable products, you, our customers, are contributing to a more sustainable world. And we care that you care, so we promise to keep it real and provide you with more transparency about our products and production process.

]]>With Spring/Summer ’21 Collection we wanted to inspire positivity. We believe that even small changes can make a difference without overhauling your life. Like using a Notabag instead of a plastic, single use bag.
To explore the topic of sustainable positivity and ways in which we can integrate it into our lives, we invited Sophia Cheng, Founder of With Many Roots to share her experience and perspective with us.
Sophia has reorientated her life around the climate crisis. She’s forged her decade of communications experience into offering workshops, mentoring and words on the biggest issues of our time.
For me it means carving out a manageable practice to get perspective, regularly. It’s not blind to the injustices and heaviness in our world in 2021 but instead is an approach that challenges us to look through our experiences, understand the world around us from a different lens. What have we learned here? What were the nuggets of joy? What am I grateful for?
It is so easy to get caught up in the minutiae, or the day-to-day tasks or the endless doom scrolling on social media that we lose hope but we also lose sight. Zooming out and getting the bigger picture means we can see take stock and see how far we’ve come. And especially since the lockdowns sometimes the perspective shift comes from zooming in and noticing; the blackbird that seems to be in the same branch every morning and that there is more than one type of daffodil! What have you noticed?
Here is your invitation to day dream. There is much negativity to dwell on in our present but what is the positive future you want? When Hollywood and trending Netflix shows point towards dystopia—imagining a more utopian future is a small act of rebellion. Let’s say we overcome today’s hurdles and overcome the climate and ecological crisis—then what? Where do you see yourself? What is daily life like?
It might feel silly at first and even difficult, but like muscle our imagination gets better with practice.
Extra tip: Join a climate-fiction MeetUp group and practice with others.
Get moving, moving your body that is. There’s a wealth of research that highlights just how good doing physical activity is for your wellbeing. Our body holds onto the tension we absorb throughout the day. If the thought of exercise regimes has you shuddering, think instead of movement, walking just as our bodies were designed to do. Take your limbs up and away from the computer screen or your phone and out into the world. Swing your arms, look up to the sky and remember as Vybarr Cregan Reid puts it we have a brain because “we have a body, not the other way around.”
It sounds obvious but you do not have to do this work alone. In fact we’ll never really be able to tackle sustainability by working as individuals. So find your tribe, a group that aligns with your values. Seek out a community to celebrate your successes and relate to your sustainability struggles. Like most things, you’ll get out what you put in, so when you’re getting started the most important thing is to show up and take part. Picking up litter on your own might be a slog, a group litter pick is a socially distanced party with a purpose.
Buddhist teacher, Thich That Hanh, describes the information we consume much like the food we consume. He adds, “we often ingest toxic communication from the people around us and from what we watch and read.” Are your news sources nourishing you? Or poisoning you? Is breaking news breaking you? It might not always feel like it but we get a say in how we hear, see, read the news. Turn off those Twitter notifications, unfollow those clickbait FB pages, send your newsletters to dedicated folder ready for you to read in your time. Consider opting out and subscribing to the slow news movement instead.

]]>Dear Notabag friends,
We would like to take a moment to look back at the year that is coming to an end.
It has been a year like no other. The new challenges it brought helped us develop in ways we did not expect. It also reinforced what we hold dear: relationships, community, value-and-need driven innovation.
Even though it wasn’t always easy, as 2020 unfolded we persevered through our challenges with compassion, creativity, teamwork, and the support of our community. We are proud to say that we continued to deliver on our mission to create quality products that simplify daily life while increasing our positive impact on the environment.
We would like to thank you for your support. Whether it was a follow, like or comment on a social media post, a purchase, a review or feedback that you took time to write – we appreciate each gesture.
So, before we officially begin the year ahead, here is a recap of a few ‘difficult but worth-it’ moments from 2020:
New Collections
Spring/Summer 2020 collection launched in April introducing pattern to our portfolio. We are glad to see that it was well received and look forward to playing in this arena in the future.
Hello World collection was just the right approach for the time we are in. As leisure travelling was out of question for the majority of global population, the Hello World Notabag launched in September ready to take you to places you’ve been longing for and to remind us of our unity.
We worked with various creatives to bring the story of the Hello World Notabag to life and provide them with a platform to showcase their creativity. We collaborated with the City Works to create a Notabag featuring monuments from around the globe. As they come together in the detailed design, they form a beautiful unity, symbolizing what our world is all about.
3% for clean waters
When the German government decided to introduce the economic stimulus package and implement the temporary 3% VAT reduction, we chose to use this difference towards the greater good. Instead of passing on the price reduction, we dedicated the 2.5% price difference from purchases (excluding shipping) made on notabag.com to support the Pristine Earth Collective. PEC is a South African NGO catalyst for the new plastics economy formed by a group of concerned citizens, who are working on identifying, connecting and accelerating solutions to the plastics crisis in our oceans.
Supporting our suppliers and partners
In times like this it is the natural instinct to cut down on any additional costs and remain under the radar until things get stable again. We decided not to do that.
We work with small, family owned production factories. And, throughout the years they have become more than our suppliers – they are our partners and an essential part of Notabag brand. It was important to us that we make sure not to let our suppliers down, as they heavily depend on us. Our production line continued to operate on a regular monthly basis as it did before, with a slight adjustment in production quantities. However, the most important fact is that neither our suppliers or their employees had to face the situation were they needed to question their existence.
Although we do not have our own retail locations, we know that Notabag would not be where it is without our retail partners. The lovely design and concept stores, bookshops, museums, and all the retail spaces that believe in Notabag enough to carry it in their space. As limitations came along we tried to support our partners as best we could. In addition to featuring them in our social media stories, we launched a store locator to help you shop local.
We are beyond grateful for the community we have amassed since the days of Kickstarter. We thank all our old and new friends for continuing to cheer us on, for using (and reusing) Notabag products, and for making a positive impact with us.
We wish you all a healthy and joyful holiday season and a positive outlook into the new year.
With sincere gratitude,
Your Notabag team

Our positive impact initiative continues to support the Pristine Earth Collective. As of July 2020, 2,5% of all sales made on notabag.com (excluding shipping) goes towards solving one of the biggest issues of today: the pollution of our planet’s waters.
PEC aims to see no single-use plastic going into South African landfills and oceans by 2025. It’s not an easy challenge to take on, so every contribution counts. We thank you for your support and want to highlight a few activities that PEC has brought to life over the last months:
July: Youth Awareness Event on the Lotus River
On July 24, 2020 PEC hosted their first Youth Awareness Event on the Lotus River. They took 22 youths and 2 community leaders on a "source to sea" journey of waste.
Their journey started in Gugulethu. The under-serviced, low-income area in Cape Town is a hot spot for illegal dumping as waste services and lack of awareness are an issue. In partnership with the City of Cape Town's Green Jobs department, the learners were shown the direct impact of the waste at source near their community.
They then went south to the Lotus River in Grassy Park to illustrate how waste travels downstream daily toward the wetlands of Zeekoevlei and showcase interventions. There are 2 Litterbooms placed across the river to trap the surface waste and intercept ocean bound plastics.
From there, they took the learners onto boats to experience the delicate ecosystem at the end of the river, which is annually drawn down to flush into ocean of False Bay (Muizenburg). They enjoyed this very much, especially after months of being locked down in their neighbourhoods.
Overall it was a very impactful day, full of inspirational experiences. So much so that the young learners were inspired to do a cleanup in August.
See PEC’s IG recap: https://www.instagram.com/p/CDL4yQjpA2R/
August: Youth Cleanup in Gugulethu Area
In August PEC held their first PEC/Gugs Youth Clean event with 40 youths from the Gugulethu area. It was a successful day of hard work where 112 bags of litter were collected in just 1h30!
These community champions showed incredible initiative and with the encouragement and support of organizations such as PEC, they are fast becoming environmental stewards tackling pollution at the heart of their neighbourhood.
See PEC’s IG recap: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEtlqDrJGz5/
September: World Cleanup Day
PEC celebrated the World Cleanup Day 2020 with a passionate group of 42 youths (over double the expected turnout) cleaning up selected dumping hotspots in the Gugulethu area.
Together with the City of Cape Town Green Jobs Department, the group collected almost 500 bags of rubbish in 2 hours. That’s over 2 tons of litter that was prevented from ending up in our oceans and rivers.
Many of the participants were involved in PEC’s July and August events. They also organized multiple cleanups on their own so PEC wanted to encourage and reward their initiative. They organized lunch and prizes such as paint and citrus trees (donated by Laughtons Hardware) to be used in public spaces.
See PEC’s IG recap: https://www.instagram.com/p/CFcGyu7pDhE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
The above are just 3 examples of culminating points of the efforts that PEC, their partners and local community undertake to do their part towards a cleaner world. These events take tremendous organization and their successes often rely on volunteers and sponsorships. We are truly inspired by the work PEC and the local youths are doing to tackle pollution.
While this year has been a tough one for so many in many different ways, it has also brought opportunities for people to come together and support each other. We thank PEC for the opportunity to contribute to their efforts and we thank you for choosing to make a difference with us.

Then take a look at what trustworthy magazines and bloggers love about Notabag and why they recommend it as a great gift for commuters, parents, multi-taskers, and mindful shoppers who appreciate a good quality reusable bag. Here are a few mentions from this year:
"A Colorful Convertible Tote It’s a bag. Wait, no, it’s a backpack. Actually, it’s both! Notabag wins the award for most versatile reusable grocery bag, thanks to its pull-through straps that let you easily change it from a backpack to a tote bag. This bag comes in a number of bright, bold colors, and it can even fold up into its own pocket for easy storage. It’s pretty ingenious, if you ask us, and the design is ideal for anyone who commutes."

"Convertible Tote Backpack Is it a backpack? Is it a tote? No, it's both! Here to save the day is the Notabag bag, transforming from a tote bag for smaller produce to a backpack, evenly distributing the weight of heavier, bulky items. Now for the specs: it's water resistant and machine washable, is primarily made of cotton and nylon, and has thick, easy-to-handle straps."

"Convertible Shopping Bag Once you find the bag that suits your needs, you will remember it and finally kick the plastic bag habit. So, without further ado, I present the handiest bag I’ve ever found. The Notabag is a shoulder shopping bag that can also be worn as a backpack. This is prime for cyclists, people with kiddos in their arms, etc.
You can feel even better about this purchase knowing that the company also donates 2.5% of profits from every order to reducing ocean pollution.
Perfect for: the friend who’s always multitasking."

Join us for a trip around the world with the Hello World Collection and let us take you to places you’ve been longing for.
The Hello World Notabag features monuments from favorite places around the globe. The intricate design brings faraway sites such as the Opera House from Sydney or Sagrada Familia from Barcelona to life. Each evokes feelings of familiarity or brings back memories of past travels. The individual monuments blend together as they become part of one design, forming a beautiful unity that symbolizes what our world is all about.
We collaborated with The City Works to create this special edition. Founded by design duo Sylvia Moritz and Rowan Ottesen, The City Works is a contemporary souvenirs brand based in Vienna.
They created the Hello World design with the goal of illustrating every point of interest from around the world in an effort to remind us of its togetherness, and how charmingly complex it can be.
We wanted to create a collection that embodies creativity, design and openness. So we worked with multiple photographers and creatives around the world to bring the story of the Hello World Notabag to life.
Like the monuments featured on the design, each creative has their individual style. When their photos are brought together in a collective, their differences fade away—the spirit of wonder and togetherness takes over.
Take a look at New York from the perspective of Jorge Rojas, Berlin from behind Franziska Kuttler’s lens or let Barcelona Travel Girls show you their Barcelona.

]]>As of July 2020, the German government implemented a 3% temporary VAT (value-added tax) reduction. When passed on, this results in a general price decrease of about 2.5% on many goods. We made the decision to use this 2.5% price difference towards the greater good.
This means you will not see a change in our prices. Instead, we will dedicate the 2.5% difference from purchases (excluding shipping) made on notabag.com to support the Pristine Earth Collective (PEC). PEC is a South African NGO catalyst for the new plastics economy formed by a group of concerned citizens, who are working on identifying, connecting and accelerating solutions to the plastics crisis in our oceans.
Our mission is to create quality products that simplify daily life while increasing our positive impact on the environment. We see the VAT reduction as an opportunity to bring this to life with our community in a tangible way. We also believe that consumers who choose to purchase Notabag products share similar values and strive to make eco-conscious choices when possible. It can be difficult to make a big impact as an individual or a single brand, but we are sure that together we can make a difference.
Together with you and PEC, we want to use this opportunity to address one of the biggest issues of today: the pollution of our planet’s waters. PEC aims to see no single-use plastic going into South African landfills and oceans by 2025. Their approach of collaboration, acceleration, and activism, together with your and our support, will protect life-giving oceans and preserve the planet for future generations.
All final purchases that are made directly on notabag.com will contribute towards the 2.5%. Since the www.notabag.us does not fall under this temporary VAT adjustment, they will not be included.
As part of the COVID-19 economic stimulus package, the German government is temporarily reducing the VAT from 19% to 16% until December 2020. VAT is included in the final price you pay as a consumer on our webshop (excluding shipping). For example, VAT of 19% on a €100 net price results in a €119 final price. When we apply 16% VAT instead of 19%, this results in a €3 price decrease, which means that €16 is paid to the tax office instead of €19. This €3 decrease is a price difference of about 2.5% from the original price (3÷119=0.0252).
We will make sure to keep you up to date on this initiative. Keep an eye on our upcoming newsletters, social media, and blog posts for updates on the PEC activities.

Design and innovation are embedded into the very core of Notabag. After all, the Notabag founder, Adnan Alicusic, began his career in graphic design. As a team we appreciate building relationships with individuals like Ilaria, whose work also reflects passion for design and creative innovation.
Eindhoven, a technology and design hub in south of The Netherlands, is known for its innovative nature. We are excited to discover it from Ilaria’s perspective and see how the city and Notabag fit into her creative lifestyle!
Where in Eindhoven are you taking us and why?
We are discovering the Strijp-S neighborhood in Eindhoven. The former industrial park belonged to Philips and in the past 20 years creative companies and housing have been established in the former industrial buildings.
I love this area! It's vibrant, innovative and creative.
How does the design vibe come through in Eindhoven?
Eindhoven is one of the most important European cities when it comes to design. The Design Academy is well known for the quality of the program and people from all over the world apply to study here. Moreover, every year in October, the Dutch Design Week is held in Eindhoven with an array of Design-related events. Piet Hein Eek has its own headquarter right here and former industrial buildings are now dedicated to design companies, like the Sectie C area.
How do your surroundings inspire you?
Eindhoven is a rather small city compared to Amsterdam for example, but it offers a wide range of festivals of any kind, creative initiatives and art events.
And it's surrounded by woods, so you can have both a day in the city or a walk into the silence. And this is what I like the most, this balance. I can be inspired by seeing an event at Strijp S or by a bike ride in the woods with my family.
What do you like about Notabag?
I love the flexibility and the simple but effective design. It can be used by the whole family and I especially appreciate the new dots and stripes patterns. And it's super useful when I ride the cargo bike, my hands are free, and I don't have to worry about the bag!
Any other notes/comments you would like to add?
I have to admit that Notabag is happily used by the whole family. My husband is using the red version for himself every time he goes out with the kids and they love their small version too! So, approved and recommended by all of us!

Today Notabag has grown a small core team and become an established brand. As we continue to look forward, we wanted our new identity to reflect our vision, yet maintain the core element that started everything.
]]>The artwork is showcasing «24 Stops», 24 waymarkers created by the artist Tobias Rehberger. Walkers can explore a uniquely diverse natural and cultural landscape.
The Rehberger-Weg and its waymarkers provide an opportunity to get to know both the history and stories of the surroundings and its inhabitants and to tell them again, as well as encouraging an excursion into nature. The path runs between Weil am Rhein and Riehen, between the Fondation Beyeler and the Vitra Campus.

We had the honour to collaborate with the Guggenheim museum in New York. Together with the creative team at Guggenheim museum we created a custom Notabag version as a part of an exclusive collection. The artwork was inspired by the architecture of the of the Guggenheim museum in New York, which is considered Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece.
The shape of the iconic architecture was printed with reflective screen onto Notabag, so that it is visible in the dark. In addition to the reflective print, a co-branded label and a custom packaging were developed as well.
“I can see a tall building of a new type perfectly appropriate to our purpose, having monumental dignity and great beauty.”
Frank Lloyd Wright’s words to Solomon R. Guggenheim
